While the short notice is already out, the detailed notification is expected to be published on May 14, 2026, just before the application window opens.

Indian Railways is set to conduct a nationwide recruitment drive for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP). Vacancy & Salary Details

  • Total Vacancies: 11,127 Posts
  • Pay Scale: Level-2 (7th CPC Pay Matrix)
  • Initial Pay: Approximately ₹19,900 (plus allowances like DA, HRA, and Running Allowance).

Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification:

  • Option A: Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI from recognized institutions of NCVT/SCVT in relevant trades (Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright, etc.).
  • Option B: Matriculation/SSLC plus 3-year Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering.
  • Option C: B.E. / B.Tech Degree in the engineering streams mentioned above.

2. Age Limit (as of July 1, 2026):

  • Minimum: 18 Years.
  • Maximum: 30 Years.
  • Relaxation: SC/ST (5 years), OBC-NCL (3 years), and other categories as per Railway rules.

Selection Process

The recruitment involves five distinct stages:

  1. CBT-1: Screening test (75 questions, 60 minutes). Marks not counted for final merit.
  2. CBT-2: Two parts (Part A for merit, Part B for qualifying trade test).
  3. CBAT (Aptitude Test): Only for those who qualify CBT-2.
  4. Document Verification (DV)
  5. Medical Examination: Must meet the A-1 Medical Standard (specifically vision requirements).
