1. Educational Qualifications & Post-Qualification Experience (As on 1st July 2026)
- Junior Engineering Assistant-IV (Production) [Code: CPCL01]:
- Qualification: 3-year Diploma in Chemical / Petroleum / Petrochemical Engineering or B.Sc. with Chemistry as a major subject from a recognized Institute/University with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (55% for SC candidates against reserved vacancies).
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in operation/maintenance of continuous process units in Refining / Chemical / Petrochemical / Fertilizer / Gas Processing industries.
- Junior Engineering Assistant-IV (Mechanical) [Code: CPCL02]:
- Qualification: 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/PwBD candidates against reserved slots).
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in maintenance of rotary and stationary equipment in industrial environments.
- Junior Engineering Assistant-IV (Electrical) [Code: CPCL03]:
- Qualification: 3-year Diploma in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/PwBD candidates against reserved slots).
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in maintenance of motors, transformers, generators, HT/LT switchgear, UPS, and VFDs in large industrial setups.
- Junior Engineering Assistant-IV (Instrumentation) [Code: CPCL04]:
- Qualification: 3-year Diploma in Instrumentation / Instrumentation & Electronics / Instrumentation & Control / Electronics & Communication Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/PwBD candidates against reserved slots).
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in maintenance of industrial instrumentation and control systems.
2. Age Limit (As on 1st July 2026)
- Maximum Age Limit: 30 Years for Unreserved/EWS candidates.
- Age Relaxations: Upper age limits are relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, and up to 10 to 15 years for PwBD categories as per directives.
Salary Structure & Compensation Package
- Cadre: Non-Supervisory Cadre, Grade IV
- IDA Pay Scale: ₹25,000 – ₹1,05,000/-
- Starting Basic Pay: ₹25,000/- per month

Selection Process & Exam Pattern
The selection methodology is split into two rigorous stages:
- Computer-Based Test (CBT): Tentatively scheduled for September/October 2026 at Chennai. The objective multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam comprises 120 questions carrying 120 marks with a duration of 2 hours:
- General Aptitude: Verbal Ability, General Knowledge, Reasoning / Logical Deduction, and Numerical Ability (50 Questions / 50 Marks).
- Discipline Knowledge: Core technical questions related to the applied engineering stream (70 Questions / 70 Marks).
- Negative Marking: ¼ mark (0.25) is deducted for every incorrect response.
- Qualifying Cut-off: 40% for General, OBC, and EWS candidates; 35% for SC, ST, and PwBD candidates against reserved posts.
- Skill, Proficiency and/or Physical Test (SPPT): Candidates shortlisted from the CBT in a roughly 1:3 ratio must undergo a practical SPPT. This test is purely qualifying in nature and does not contribute points to the final merit list.
- Pre-Employment Medical Examination: Final selection is strictly subject to candidates being declared medically fit as per CPCL’s medical fitness guidelines.
