ICHR JRF 2026: Fellowship Benefits
The fellowship is a full-time engagement for a period of two years, which can be extended by one year under special circumstances (though the third year is usually without financial commitment).

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the ICHR JRF 2026, you must meet the following conditions:
- Registration: You must be registered in a recognized university for a Ph.D. program in Historical Studies.
- Specialization: You must choose one of the three areas for the entrance exam: Ancient, Medieval, or Modern Indian History.
- Nature of Work: The fellowship is a whole-time commitment. You cannot combine it with any other full-time or part-time employment unless you are on official leave from your job.
Selection Process
The selection is highly competitive and is based on a two-stage merit system (Total: 160 Marks).
- Stage I: Online Entrance Test (100 Marks)
- Consists of 100 objective-type questions.
- No negative marking.
- Questions are based on the candidate’s chosen area of specialization.
- Stage II: Presentation-cum-Interview (60 Marks)
- Shortlisted candidates will present their Ph.D. research topic (8–10 minutes, preferably via PowerPoint).
- Followed by a personal interview by a panel of experts.

- Application Fee: ₹500 (Exempted for SC, ST, and PwD candidates).
- Hard Copy Submission: After submitting online, you must print the application form (with the unique ID) and send it via post.
- Documents Required:
- Self-attested copies of Ph.D. registration certificate.
- Educational certificates and marksheets.
- Recommendation from the Research Supervisor (forwarded by the HOD/Principal).
