The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is the most crucial examination for teaching aspirants in India. Note: CBSE has stated that if the number of applicants exceeds capacity, the exam may also be conducted on September 5, 2026.


1. Application Fee Details

The fee varies based on the number of papers you choose and your category.

2. Eligibility Criteria (September 2026 Session)

A. For Primary Stage (Class I to V) – Paper I

  • Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
  • OR 10+2 with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
  • OR Graduation and passed/appearing in final year of two-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

B. For Elementary Stage (Class VI to VIII) – Paper II

  • Graduation and passed/appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
  • OR Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).
  • OR Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.

Note: As per the latest NCTE guidelines, candidates pursuing any teacher education course (B.Ed/D.El.Ed) are also eligible to appear.


3. CTET Exam Pattern & Structure

The exam is conducted in Offline mode (Pen and Paper/OMR-based). Each paper consists of 150 MCQs for 150 marks. There is no negative marking.

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy (30 MCQs)
  2. Language I (Compulsory) (30 MCQs)
  3. Language II (Compulsory) (30 MCQs)
  4. Mathematics (30 MCQs)
  5. Environmental Studies (30 MCQs)

Paper II (Classes VI to VIII)

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy (30 MCQs)

  4. Mathematics & Science OR Social Studies/Social Science (60 MCQs)

4. How to Apply Online: Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Official Portal: Visit ctet.nic.in.
  2. Registration: Click on “Apply for CTET September 2026”. Choose “New Registration” and enter your basic details (Name, DOB, Mobile, Email).
  3. Application Form: Log in with your registration number and fill in educational qualifications and the choice of Paper (I, II, or Both).
  4. Upload Scanned Images:
    • Photograph (10KB – 100KB)
    • Signature (3KB – 30KB)
  5. Fee Payment: Pay the fee online.
  6. Confirmation Page: Take a printout of the Confirmation Page for future reference. Note: CBSE will allot the exam city on a random basis; you cannot choose your specific city this year.

A: A person scoring 60% or more (90 marks out of 150) is considered CTET qualified. For reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC), relaxation may be provided by the respective school managements.

Q3: Can I change my exam city after submitting the form?

A: No. CBSE has explicitly stated that candidates cannot select or change their examination city. Allotments are done randomly.

Q4: I am appearing in the final year of B.Ed. Can I apply?

A: Yes, candidates “appearing” in the final year of a recognized teacher training course are eligible.
