Eligibility Criteria: Qualification & Age Limit

All eligibility conditions are reckoned as of the closing date: May 11, 2026.

1. Educational Qualification

  • Diploma Trainee (Electrical/Civil/Survey): Full-time regular 3-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline with minimum 70% marks (Pass marks for SC/ST/PwBD).
    • Restriction: Higher technical qualifications like B.E./B.Tech with or without a Diploma are NOT allowed.
  • Junior Officer Trainee (HR): 3-year full-time regular Graduate Degree (BBA/BBM/BBS) with minimum 60% marks.
    • Restriction: Candidates with PG degrees/diplomas are not eligible.
  • Junior Officer Trainee (F&A): Inter CA / Inter CMA. Higher qualifications like CA/CMA are not allowed.
  • Junior Technician Trainee (Survey): Full-time regular 2-year ITI (Surveyor) from a recognized institute.

2. Age Limit (As of 11-05-2026)

  • Maximum Age: 27 Years (General/EWS).
  • Age Relaxation: * OBC (NCL): 3 Years (Up to 30)
    • SC/ST: 5 Years (Up to 32)
    • PwBD: 10 Years
    • Ex-Servicemen: As per Govt. of India rules.

Selection Process: The 3-Stage Path

The selection is designed to be transparent and merit-oriented.

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): An objective exam carrying 170 marks.
  2. Skill Test / Trade Test: For posts like Junior Officer Trainee (HR) and Technicians, a qualifying skill test is conducted. No marks from the skill test are added to the final merit.
  3. Pre-Employment Medical Examination: To ensure the candidate meets the physical standards of POWERGRID.

    • S1 Level (Trainees): ₹25,000 – ₹1,17,500 (IDA Pattern).

Q1: Can B.Tech students apply for Diploma Trainee posts?

A: No. PGCIL explicitly states that candidates with higher technical qualifications (B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech) with or without a Diploma are not eligible for these posts.

Q2: Is there any bond for the Trainee positions?

A: Yes. Selected candidates usually sign a Service Agreement Bond. For General/OBC, it is approximately ₹2,50,000 for Diploma Trainees for a period of 3 years post-training.

Q3: Can I apply for multiple regions?

A: No. A candidate can apply for only one region and for only one post within that region. Applying for multiple regions may lead to cancellation of all applications.

Q4: What is the last date to apply?

A: The online application portal closes at 11:59 PM on May 11, 2026.

Q5: Will there be an interview?

A: No. For Non-Executive positions in Maharatna PSUs, the interview stage has been replaced by the Skill/Trade Test (which is qualifying in nature). Final merit is based on the CBT score.
