The recruitment targets the commissioning of officers in the rank of Lieutenant.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

The Territorial Army has unique eligibility requirements compared to regular Army entries (NDA/CDS).

1. Gainful Employment (The Most Critical Rule)

Candidates MUST be “Gainfully Employed” in a civilian profession. This means you must have a steady source of income.

  • Eligible: Private sector employees, Government/PSU employees, Self-employed professionals (Doctors, CA, Lawyers), and Business Owners.
  • Not Eligible: Unemployed individuals, full-time students, and serving members of the Regular Army/Navy/Air Force/Police/GREF/Para-Military forces.

2. Nationality & Gender

3. Age Limit (As of May 19, 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 18 Years.
  • Maximum Age: 42 Years.
  • Note: You must not have crossed 42 years on the last day of the application.

4. Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must be a Graduate from any recognized University in any discipline.

5. Physical Standards

  • A candidate must be physically and medically fit in all respects as per the standards of the Indian Army. Height and weight must be proportionate as per Army medical charts.

Selection Process: The 4-Stage Path

The TA selection is rigorous and mirrors the regular Army’s officer selection process.

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): An objective screening exam held nationwide.
  2. Preliminary Interview Board (PIB): Candidates who pass the CBT are interviewed by the TA Group Headquarters to verify their employment and motivation.
  3. Service Selection Board (SSB): A comprehensive 5-day evaluation at a Selection Centre (Allahabad, Bhopal, Bangalore, or Kapurthala) testing Officer-Like Qualities (OLQs).
  4. Medical Examination: A final check at a Military Hospital.

New Exam Pattern & Syllabus (Updated for 2026)

Important Change: For the July 12, 2026 exam, the Mathematics section has been removed. The exam is now a 2-hour single-session paper.

Training, Salary & Benefits

Once commissioned as a Lieutenant, officers undergo mandatory training:

  • One month of basic training in the first year of commission.
  • Two months of annual training camp every year.
  • Three months of Post Commissioning Training (PCT) at the TA Training School within the first two years.

TA Officers receive the same pay and allowances as regular Army officers for the duration they are “embodied” (on active duty/training).
